Guru Smt. Latha Ravi
‘Kalai Chudarmani’ ‘Natyakala Sironmani’ Smt. Latha Ravi is a rare combination of flawless dancer, choreographer, music composer, singer, teacher and author. Art runs in her veins as she hails from a family with rich cultural background. She was initiated into this traditional art by her mother Smt. Chithra Narayanan and was groomed by her grandmother Late Smt. Rukmini Srinivasan who was a disciple of renowned Smt. Gowri Ammal of Mylapore. Both her mother and grandmother had a free-flowing way of teaching dance, their approach to dance exemplified effortless grace and natural, spontaneous facial expressions.
The Mission
The mission of ‘Bharatha Natyalaya’ is to provide superior quality education in the traditional dance form ‘Bharathanatyam’ to all students and encourage them to serve as advocates for this art in society.
The History
‘Bharatha Natyalaya’ was started in 1947 by Smt. Rukmini Srinivasan who was a disciple of renowned Smt. Gowri Ammal of Mylapore. Dancing being her life and chosen profession Smt. Latha Ravi took the reins of ‘Bharaths Natyalaya’ in 1986. Bharatha Natyalaya has achieved a reputation throughout the dance world for the superior quality of its education and artistic training. Since its inception Bharatha Natyalaya has been dedicated in providing high-quality dance disciplines, training and professionalism for students between the ages of 5 – 50. In addition to teaching, Bharatha Natyalaya strives to create an environment for displaying the art at various places and dance related programs.
The Education
Bharatha Natyalaya offers bharathanatyam classes for students of all backgrounds and ages. Guru Smt. Latha Ravi along with Smt. Ramya Suresh, Kumari. Supprasanna Ravi and senior students take an active role in shaping the future of bharathanatyam by providing exemplary art education. Bharatha Natyalaya strives to bring all expertise and knowledge of renowned personnel into the classroom. Through offerings in traditional art form, Bharatha Natyalaya provides experiences that expand students’ horizons and prepares today’s dancers for the variety of opportunities they may pursue. The personal attention Bharatha Natyalaya provides encourages students to mature as dancers, grow as individuals, and enrich their passion for the art form.
